He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds and explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like animal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." Athena and her friends go through the trials of the teenage mind as well. A lot of twists and turns, but it ends happily. A good read for those long nights where you can't sleep. Have you ever read Patricia Cornwell? How about Tony Hillerman or Dick Francis? Patricia Cornwell writes from a medical examiner's point of view. Tony Hillerman's books are written from the Four Corners area with a Native American flair. Dick Francis writes with a theme from the English race tracks. Have you ever touched upon True Crime? Then again, I have pretty much stopped reading now that I: a.) have a laptop computer and a jump/flash drive (mini hard drive on a stick) b.) have read every stinkin book in the house and therefore have nothing to read. c.) have rejoined HD and started reading the wonderful stuff we post everywhere here, especially in the writing stuff forum and Religion topics in the music forum. d.) have decided to stop reading about topics that desensitize my dislike of violence and death. Ever since my cat died a few weeks ago, I have made this choice. e.) have read my fill until I finish The Underground. (See review.) I've heard of Dick Francis, tho. Mom reads that stuff. I guess you have never heard of this institution called a Library. They have lots and lots of books and they will loan them to you for a period of time so you may read them. If you do not finish the book in the first allotment of time, you can telephone them and renew the book for a second allotment of time. But I was first in here, more or less. ANyway. Random book pick: Name: The Supernaturalists Author: Eoin Colfer Thingymagummy; In the future of coporate dominance if you are orphaned, you are effectively given up for dead, left in the orphanages where every day holds new product testing on the lonely orphans. Many die at the age 15. If you get past that, the Orphanage'll just look for an excuse to banish you to the prisons. Cosmo Hill is 14. According to the statistics, he has one year left to live, unless.... Unless he can find a group called the Supernaturalists who may be his only chance to live a longer life... or will it be shortened? Funny thing, just a thing I noticed after reading the book that the print was slightly smaller. (ok maybe im exaggerating a little, but not much...) Reading and the appreciation of the written word, is the greatest gift a parent can give a child. Those that do are hated and feared by all the normal people. The main characters have animal speech, and the others isn't found out towards the end. Their parents are killed in a fire, and they set out to their aunts house. They are found by the talent hunters, and the main character screams for help in animal speech. She, being a vegetarian, is disgusted when two wolves appear and tear into their persuers. With their stay with the wolves, she befriends a wolf cub, who comes with them on their journey. By now they are looking for a place to stay. However, her brother is extremely opposed to having the wolf come along. This provides for some anger and harsh feeling between them. One day, they are all captured and go to this special place for talents, which is run by the gov't and everything is kept in order by the one person whose talent is to bring pain. As they flee from there, the find a country house, where they keep their secret hidden. The wolf has to stay away. She becomes great friends with a girl named Yvonne, and she finds her secret out, but doesn't care. The talent hunters get close to the house, so she and her brother must flee. Yvonne tells them of a place called dragon home, a castle not far away that is supposedly abandoned. I will not ruin the ending if you decide to read it yourself. (dont all u lazy nonreading people think i have no life!!!!! i do! i just love to read!) the 10 books are: 1. holes (louis sachar) 2. hoot (carl hiaasen) 3. the ghost belonged to me (richard peck) 4. stargirl (jerry spinelli) 5. no more dead dogs (gordon korman) 6. gathering blue (lois lowry) (a companion to The Giver) 7. hatchet (gary paulsen) 8. bud not buddy (christopher paul curtis) 9. witness (karen hesse) 10. among the hidden (margaret peterson haddix) speaking of margaret peterson haddix and among the hidden, among the hidden is the first in a series of books, 6 so far (all titles starting with "among the") and ive read them all...also she wrote "the house on the gulf" which i read, and it is good, and "double identity" which i think is new, which i read and it is good too! ive heard she also wrote "running out of time" which i have not read yet, but hope to soon, next time i go to the library ill look, if i remember....ok...BYE!!!!!!! Plot: These two old ladies, melly (amelia) hazelwood and anny beth flick, are in a nursing home and get an offer to get this shot that will make them "de-age" until a ceratin point atwhich time they will get another shot that will keep them that age. they agree, but after getting the first shot (PT-1) they find out the "stop aging" shot (PT-2) doesnt work. now they are going to keep getting younger until they are babies again, and they do not know what will happen then. this is both secret and illegal, and the 50 people who have gotten PT-1 have had their familes told that they are dead (they were all from the same nursing home) the nursing home part takes place in 2000 and the rest of the book takes place is 2085, when melly is 16 and anny beth is 18. review: good book, but it leaves you hanging at the end...im giving no more details!!!!! rating: 5 out of 5, or if its 4, 4 out of 4...i forget and, i like a lot of margaret peterson' haddix's books. i have read: among the hidden, among the imposters, among the betrayed, among the barons, among the brave, among the enemy, the house on the gulf, double identity, running out of time, and turnabout obviously...i have not read leaving fishers, because of anya, and some others i cant remember...i know theres at least 2 more...ok ive got to do hw!!! bye Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Plot: These two old ladies, melly (amelia) hazelwood and anny beth flick, are in a nursing home and get an offer to get this shot that will make them "de-age" until a ceratin point atwhich time they will get another shot that will keep them that age. they agree, but after getting the first shot (PT-1) they find out the "stop aging" shot (PT-2) doesnt work. now they are going to keep getting younger until they are babies again, and they do not know what will happen then. this is both secret and illegal, and the 50 people who have gotten PT-1 have had their familes told that they are dead (they were all from the same nursing home) the nursing home part takes place in 2000 and the rest of the book takes place is 2085, when melly is 16 and anny beth is 18. review: good book, but it leaves you hanging at the end...im giving no more details!!!!! rating: 5 out of 5, or if its 4, 4 out of 4...i forget and, i like a lot of margaret peterson' haddix's books. i have read: among the hidden, among the imposters, among the betrayed, among the barons, among the brave, among the enemy, the house on the gulf, double identity, running out of time, and turnabout obviously...i have not read leaving fishers, because of anya, and some others i cant remember...i know theres at least 2 more...ok ive got to do hw!!! bye I will read this! We get authors to come to our school and just talk to us. Then a select few get to acutally meet him and do a little workshop on his work. It's really fun. This book contains her journal entries, dream logs, and random thoughts. A good read, if you like this genre. Approx 120 pages. I like this book.
